Here's a work in progress picture of the painting I'm working on currently.

Firstly, of course the digital camera takes away a bit of the quality.

I wish I had taken a snapshot of some of the early stages, but I forgot. =\ Oh well. Working here, with a focus on realism with lighting/shadows as well as color.

Nothing's really done. The face is kinda close, but still not done. It's been fun so far.

I haven't painted in a year, so it feels real nice to pick up my brushes again. And luckily, it was like riding a bike, and I instantly felt comfortable with the brushes and paint. :)

I sketched it out in pencil first, refusing to use the graphing technique. Yeah, things might be more accurate that way, but honestly, I just didn't want to bother with that. So I just free-hand sketched it.... was surprised to find that I was like 1 of like 2 people who did it that way, in the entire class. I figured more people would prefer to free-hand sketch it. *shrug* I guess I was also confident in getting a decent sketch free-hand.

Anyways, I'll save most of the production talk for when it's finished.



My teacher (Sue) and I had a small convo as class was ending:

Sue: Hey Hernan, your dog's lookin amazing so far!
Me: Thanks!
Sue: Yeah, you've painted him before, right?
Me: Yeahhhhh
Sue: You must really love your dog
Me: Hahaha, she's not even my dog...but I DO love her. She's my friend's dog.
Sue: Whaaat?! And you've been painting your friend's dog over and over all this time?
Me: Hahaha, yeah, I don't have a dog of my own....
Sue: Man, your friend's must be loving it!
Me: Haha, I actually painted one for em too.

Haha, her reaction to finding out that Charm wasn't even my dog, after painting her like 3 times already, was very amusing to me. :p

Typical Keto awesomeness. Looks like you're getting a lot of detail in this one already. I can't wait to see the finished product!

Yeah me neither, I'm anxious to finish. The painting is actually coming along faster than I thought, which is great, cause it leaves me time to work on multiple art stuff on the same time (like I have).

There'll definitely be some fine detail...I've been working with a millimeter thick brush for parts of the face, but because the 'camera' is a bit zoomed out, there's not as much detail as there is in some other stuff I've done.

I definitely am digging and having fun with this piece though, cause I love working with shadows and reflective colors and the like. :3

and YEAH I do. Tyk and I both want a husky for when we get our own place. I've been trying to think of possible names already...but I suck at this. D:

Keto you're such an amazing painter. Seriously, here at art school all day I see a lot of great illustrators and fine artists, but your particular style of blending and brush strokes is easily identifiable when I see it. great job pup *snugs*

You know, at first when I got the email that you commented on my lj, I was totally expected an outlandish remark like: KETO YOU'RE SO HOMO!

Or something like that.

But instead, you left serious feedback. *Snuggs* ;3

Thanks a lot dude, I seriously appreciate the kind words. I just wanna be able to show the painting (and all my paintings really) in person, because the blending and colors and strokes and such don't show up on camera well (especially when I lack 'white lights' and a steady hand incredible camera. ;p

Thanks again man! *snugs* ;_; sorry I've been missing your calls dude, I gotta call return those calls.

HEY KETO! Well I'm not in my mac lab/animation lab anymore ;_; i'm in my office at my job YAY~

Yanno your little story reminded me of? That commercial with the dude who has like pictures of his dog everywhere. I think it was like a CVS ad for easy access photos and sizing. And at the end he says yes he might be a tad obsessive, just a smidge. =P

Hahahaha, never seen that commercial. ;p I mean im not OBSESSED.... I just prefer to portray a dog I know and like, rather than a random dog.

That is coming along beautifully, I too can't wait to see the finished product! Your teacher's reaction is pretty funny=p

I can't wait to see my puppy in person though=D Flight got moved up six hours so we are leaving around midnight on Monday! Should be in town around 6 or so Tuesday morning. Can't wait to see you all. We have to decide when we are going to Khyber Pass sometime during the week or wait until Sat. I don't know if I can wait that long=p

Ohhhh 6 hours ahead? but a TUESDAY? lame....lol.

If you had dinner on tuesday night, I'd have to skip class to make it....which is just painting class, so it wouldn't be a HUGE deal....

I'm hungry ;_;

I don't really think its accurate to say she's NOT your dog. We might "own" her and we might be her adopted parents, but you've been there with her since she was a puppy and have given her as much love as anyone else who calls her their dog.

So while we might call her our daughter, you might call her your niece. ;)
